My pc is messing up, read for details…?
This is a notebook pc. About 4 weeks ago I installed a new hard drive. Today it wouldn’t boot up, it would make whining and whirring noises from the HD, but now it seems to be working fine. I updated and ran ran Norton antivirus and it found nothing. I have been running AdAware spy scan every few days, but it always locks up around 68,000 files scanned. It shows 27 detected components that need to be quarantined, but AdAware never finishes the scan.
Could I have a virus (Norton finds none), is my hard drive bad (I bought it 4 weeks ago), what could be the problem?

i did what Lenny suggested, and opened up the startups tab. as soon as i did that, i heard a grinding noise from my hd, and could actually feel some vibrations. the infant mortality post is starting to make sense.
It wouldn’t boot up. Not even in safe mode. The drive has been returned.
Electronics parts have something called Infant Mortality. The newer a component is, the more likely it will fail. Once it makes it through the first 90 days, it will usually run a long time. 4 weeks is a good time for a defect to show up. As previous answerer said, check the connections. It may also be a power supply issue. Does the notebook seem to run unusually hot? A local shop may be able to test the hard drive for you.
