The Phases of a Business Cycle

1. The Peak. As the term implies, the peak generally means the highest point of the gross domestic product. The peak usually follows a contraction phase. This usually is seen in a growing yet unstable economy.
2. Expansion One. This indicates when there is a commencing growth on the diagram. These are considered good points for the economy.
3. Contraction. The growth curve slides down indicating a lethargic economy. If this phase continues to slow down, the economy might eventually be seen at its lowest.
4. Trough. The curve reaches a stabilized and even form where the gross domestic product is low.
5. Expansion Two. This is considered to be the recovery of the curve which is identified with a heightening of the curve back to high.
